A notice board will shortly be going up in each container to display all this information, so apologies for the long email but it is important and everyone read the info below

Now that the clocks have changed and the weather is improving more and more people want to go out rowing using the best boats at a time that suits them or at the same time as others. A number of people have been asking what boats they are allowed to use and have also questioned why others get to use better equipment.

The attached guide gives you all an indication as to what order of boats that you should be using. I say it is a guide because any paid up club member should be allowed to use any equipment. However our limited equipment needs to be carefully managed and looked after. If any boats are damaged in training it can put them out of action for racing at the weekend which can affect a number of crews. If you think you should be using a better boat, just ask me, K or Nick. If you have a valid reason then I am sure you will get to use a better boat.

Also BASLA and Reg's Pride boats are not reserved for the seniors. They are there to be used and wont be sitting on the rack whilst other crews have to fight over the 49th or the Miller. On occasions depending on sea we will in fact be encouraging crews to take these boats out.

Please also follow the below General Rules:

1) All Crews must sign in and out of the books
2) All members to follow the order of boats attached, which is also in the books
3) No novice/junior crews to go out without an experienced cox
4) Any rower wanting to scull on the sea, needs to successfully get back in the boat at the forthcoming capsize drill on April 16th THIS SATURDAY 5:30pm Battle Abbey Pool

Novice Sculls.

1) No novice sculler is to go rowing alone, regardless of age or ability.
2) Someone over 18 has to be present either on the water or on the land for the duration of the outing.
3) Two novice scullers who are over 18 cannot go out together without a third Senior Oarsman present as above in rule 2.

4) Once a novice sculler becomes a junior sculler the racing committee will decide if you can go sculling alone.

A third container should be coming soon, once it arrives we can bring boats back from the river/move boats around so there will be a bit more space

The order of boats is designed to protect ware and tare of equipment and to reward crews who are training. It doesn't stop people rowing and can be revised once results start coming in from the first few regattas.

DUTY CREWS

Each crew is responsible for the following,

·         Ensuring new people to the club are taken care of between the hours of 6pm and 7:30pm on Tuesday

and Thursdays and 9:30am – 11am Sunday mornings.

·         Ensure that novices/juniors are getting out if / where possible. If too rough for novices ensure that they

are being occupied on machines in social and or doing mini circuit outside.

·         Ensure that people are getting help in and out of the water.

·         If you are unavailable you need to ensure that you have people to cover you.

It is important that we try and get novices out on weekends as much as possible, if the weather is not

looking good please contact Phil or Kieran so we can try and arrange alternative options at the river if

          necessary together.

We do not want people to use the weather as an excuse not to take people out on the weekends if

possible as we will lose them.
